Near-shore contract
Offshore wind power specialist Visser & Smit Hanab has been contracted by Van Oord Offshore Wind to perform all array cable terminations and testing work at Windpark Fryslân. The installation will comprise 89 4.3MW wind turbines connected by 33kV inter-array cables to an onshore high voltage substation. The routing, termination and testing activities will begin as soon as the cable installation starts.
Windpark Fryslân is a 380MW near-shore wind project in the Frisian part of Ijsselmeer Lake near Breezanddijk, Netherlands, and is owned jointly by Windpark Fryslân and Provincje Fryslân.
Gerard Lak, general manager offshore wind for Visser & Smit Hanab, said: This will be our second project in a row with Van Oord and we are proud to have been selected based on the good cooperation between V&SH Offshore and Van Oord on the Borssele project. The termination and testing works of the array cables fits perfectly within our field of expertise. We're [also] finalizing the installation of the onshore export cables for Windpark Fryslân.
Windpark Fryslân is expected to be the largest wind farm in the world to be built in inland waterways.
